Emesene MSN Client

Emesene is an open source MSN messenger client. The Emesene development team is trying to replicate the functions of the official Windows Live client in a simpler, cleaner and easier to use interface.

Emesene is a cross platform client which works well with Ubuntu and Windows. It is written using Python, GTK+, PyGTK and Pycairo.

Official Windows Live Messenger features supported by the client are:
*Offline messaging
*Personal messages
*’Now Playing’ personal messages
*Nudges
*Contact list retrieval from server
*Nickname retrieval from server
*Tabbed chat windows
*File transfer
*Webcam support (still in development)
Other features specific to emesene are:

Bazaar

Canonical, commercial sponsor of Ubuntu offers commercial support for it’s popular version control system Bazaar. Canonical is supposed to provide support for developers to deploy an manage Bazaar. Moreover canonical’s support includes migrating from other version control systems.

Some sort of version control system is essential for any serious software development. Bazaar is a newcomer in version control systems and facing tight competition from rivals like Concurrent Versioning System (CVS) and Subversion (SVN). But canonical’s magic hands grabbed a fair amount of market share in this short time span.

Canonical claim that, Bazaar is used by 80,000 people around the world on over 9,000 software projects. Canonical’s Ubuntu operating system uses Bazaar from it’s Jaunty Jackalope release onwards.

Google Chrome Browser

Initial release of Google’s new browser was only for Windows. Later they introduced Linux and Mac versions. But Linux and Mac versions are yet to come out of development stage.

Recent Linux versions of Google Chrome has the ability to play flash. After installing the development version in Ubuntu, Chrome add its repositories to the source list of Ubuntu so that you can update to future versions through Ubuntu Update manager. You can download latest development version of Google Chrome for Ubuntu from here. Just double click on the downloaded deb file to install on Ubuntu

Requirements: Intel Pentium 4 / Athlon 64 or later CPU; 32- or 64-bit Ubuntu 8.04 or later, or 32-bit Debian 5. Support for other Linux distributions is planned; unpacking the .deb files by hand may work.

Note: The Linux build still lacks certain privacy features, and is not appropriate for general consumer use.
