Most of the non – techie people are not familiar with forums. Unfortunately Ubuntu’s main support is given through forums. It would be better if there is a place which is very much like Yahoo Answers and  Stack Overflow. People love to use such services.

qBittorrent is a multi platform easy to use  BitTorrent client. The project was started in March 2006. qBittorrent creators  claim  that qBittorrent V2  is the closest equivalent for µtorrent. Its available for Both Ubuntu and Mac OSX.

New version qBittorrent v2.0.0 was released on Dec 10th 2009 and 3 days later there was bug fix release v2.0.1

qBittorrent project has won Les étoiles du libre Free Software competition, in desktop applications. The project is very live and feature rich.

Google Chrome for Linux reached Beta

Google Chrome developers announced the availability of Google Chrome 4.0 Beta for Linux. For a long time, only a development version was available for Linux platform. Now Google Chrome is available for download at Chrome official site.
Chrome Beta is available for both 32 bit and 64 bit architectures. Binary packages are available for Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora and openSUSE operating systems. Also repository for updates is available for Ubuntu family.

System wide equalizer script for Ubuntu

Ubuntu has shows huge improvements in many areas. But in one area it still lack many features. Multimedia. Ubuntu’s preloaded media players (Rhythmbox and Totem) does not even carry an equalizer. This topic has been raised many time in Ubuntu brain storm. But Rhythmbox and Totem developers does not show any interest in implementing one.

Here is a small script which enable you to use a system wide equalizer which can control all the sound producing application. Its works with Pulseaudio. There is no need to restart any running application for this equalizer to come to effect.

Ubuntu looks like Windows Xp, Windows 7 and Mac OSX

As far as an ordinary computer user is concerned, The main thing that impress him is the user interface. Mac OSX and Windows have succeeded in it up to some extend. But Ubuntu is still lacking something that attract an ordinary user.

Script to make Ubuntu looks like Windows is available HERE. Extract the downloaded file and run “InstallXpGnome.sh” . And you can revert back it to your previous settings by running “Restore_Settings.sh”

Genoid – An Android inspired theme for Ubuntu

Google’s Android is started catching market share as a mobile OS. Some netbook manufactures have showed interest in using Android in their low cost netbooks. So in the coming future there is a chance of seeing Android netbooks. Already there is a good number of Android fans around the globe.
There is an Android inspired Ubuntu theme called Genoid which is targeting Android lovers. The author ‘Khairullah Muhammad’ have tried to replicate Android theme with this creation.

Ubuntu Sun – New proposed theme for Ubuntu Lucid Lynx

Most probably Ubuntu Lucid Lynx will be shipping with a new theme called Ubuntu Sun. Ubuntu Sun package come with 3 themes. one dark theme and two bright themes. Its still actively under development. Google Wave inspired theme for Ubuntu

Google Wave have started creating waves among internet users. In this scenario Aleksandar Radovic have created a Wave inspired GTK theme for Ubuntu. This theme have been uploaded at GNOME-LOOK.ORG.  Make a look at some screen shots available at Gnome-Look.org. Its really a cool and awesome theme that enhance your computing experience. I hope in the coming days ubuntu will provide some good eye candy themes bye default.

Bisigi Project – Eye candy themes for Ubuntu

Bisigi Project is an open source project which aim at creating some eye candy themes for GNOME desktop environment. They have developed several themes that give an enhanced look and feel for Ubuntu desktop.
Theme pack contains wallpaper, GTK theme, Metacity theme and icon packs.

Enable OpenOffice.org 3 spell check in Ubuntu

OpenOffice.org 3 is the default office application in Ubuntu 9.04. Its a very good office application which is comparable to Microsoft office. In default installation of Ubuntu 9.04, there is a chance of spell and grammar check not been enabled. So it become very difficult for some users to draft official letters without serious spelling errors.
In MS word application, spell check is enabled by default. So users try to migrate to OpenOffice.org and Ubuntu platforms my become panic as most of the common computer users like to stick with the default installation and not at all interested in browsing through the application options.
